The Central Library at Techno India University, West Bengal, plays a pivotal role in supporting the academic and research needs of students, faculty, and scholars. Established in 2012, the library has evolved into a comprehensive learning resource center, facilitating access to a vast collection of print and digital materials.
Spanning approximately 15,000 square feet, the library offers reading, shelving, and workspace areas, providing a conducive environment for academic exploration. With a collection of over 80,000 print books, including titles across diverse disciplines such as science, engineering, management, law, humanities, and more, the library ensures that users have access to essential educational resources. The books are classified according to 23rd Edition of Dewey Decimal Classification scheme and it is arranged according to subject wise. In addition to books, the library subscribes to 47 print journals, 5 magazines, and several newspapers, both in English and Bengali. All the books are bar coded. The reading room attached to the library has reference books, journals, magazines and newspapers with seating arrangement for about 100 readers at a time. The library has separate E-Resource browsing corner. The Turnitin service is available through an interface built into Cornell's Canvas Learning Management System.
The Central Library is fully automated, utilizing the LIBSYS (LSEASE 2) Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) since 2016. This automation streamlines day-to-day functions like cataloging, book circulation, and barcode generation, enhancing the efficiency of library services. The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) further allows users to search for materials by title, author, subject, and other parameters. Students, faculties and staffs can access the Digital Library of Techno India University (TIU) through Knimbus.
Beyond physical resources, the library offers access to a rich array of digital content. Through the Knimbus digital library platform, users can explore a range of e-resources, including e-books, e-journals, research papers, and databases like IEEE, ProQuest, JSTOR, and Science Direct. This platform provides seamless remote access to digital materials, making it easier for students and staff to engage with academic content anytime, anywhere.
The library is also equipped with an internet zone featuring ten computers for e-resource browsing, and a separate collection of theses and dissertations is available for research purposes. The integration with platforms like Shodhganga further supports scholarly research by hosting the university’s Ph.D. theses.
To encourage a culture of reading and research, the library offers several services, including circulation, reference assistance, current awareness services, and career literature. Students and faculty can easily borrow books and resources using their ID cards and remote login services enable uninterrupted access to digital content.
Operating from 10 AM to 7 PM, Monday to Saturday, the Central Library ensures that the university community has ample opportunity to utilize its resources. The library promotes academic excellence by fostering an environment of learning, research, and innovation, making it an indispensable asset to Techno India University’s academic infrastructure.
