Research in Electrical Engineering

Department of Electrical Engineering greets you heartily. The department of Electrical Engineering is involved assiduously in teaching and research. We are gradually moving from a physical to online platform to depart knowledge. A Learning management software (LMS) is a software which helps to manage and provide various pedagogic features to serve as aids of online teaching. The department shares class notes, presentations, video lectures, etc. and manage assignments, quizzes, discussions online using LMS like MOODLE/Student Corner. It is also used as an online notice board. Apart from this we have used personal faculty websites created using www.wordpress.com and personal faculty accounts in open-source MOODLE providers like www.gnomio.com or www.moodlecloud.com for sharing additional resources. The department is equipped with well-designed classrooms having modern facilities of video projection and internet.
The department of Electrical Engineering offers Diploma (3 years), Undergraduate (4 years),Postgraduate (2 years) and Doctoral programs. Apart from these programs, the department offers Integrated Diploma - B. Tech. (6 years) and Integrated B. Tech.-M. Tech. (5 years) programs.

Three areas of specialization are currently being offered by this department for its post graduate studies:
1. Power electronics and drives,
2. Instrumentation,
3. Power systems.

The department has three broad research areas. Students enrolled under the Doctoral Program and postgraduate programs work in the following thrust areas:
1. Power Systems:
Renewable Energy and its integration, microgrid, FACTS Controllers, Energy planning, Protection issues for Distributed generation, Optimization, Intelligent and soft computing techniques for power systems, power quality, detection and classification of power system transients, islanding detection.High voltage engineering, Advanced diagnostic techniques for condition monitoring of high voltage equipment, dielectric materials
2. Machines, Drives and Power Electronics:
Solar cell-based inverter design, High efficiency inverter for single phase induction motor, Four quadrant chopper for battery driven vehicles, Electrical Machine Design and Optimization, Soft computing techniques for Cost optimal Design of various Electrical machines and Devices. Application of Classical Optimization process in Engineering Design problems, Energy Efficient Motor Design, discrete optimization etc.
3. Control and Instrumentation:
Digital and distributed control, fractional order control; Embedded systems and software-in-the-loop control; Image processing;Biomedical signal processing, brain-computer interface, Machine learning, Cognitive and neuroscience.Illumination, Lighting design and micro controllers
