The Department of Geospatial Science offers B.Sc (H). in Geoinfomatics, two Post Graduate
Programs (M.Sc.) in Geospatial Science and Geoinformatics, and also doctoral (Ph.D.) and post-
doctoral opportunities. The Department also offers a range of certificate programs designed to
holistically equip students, faculty members, researchers, and working professionals with cutting-
edge technologies, tools, and concepts in the field of geospatial science. These programs foster skill
development, technological adaptability, and domain-specific expertise to meet the evolving
demands of academia, research, and industry. The department encourages an open environment
where people from different academic backgrounds can come together to come up with new ideas,
use them, and push the limits of spatial thinking and geospatial intelligence.
The Programs offered are inherently interdisciplinary, drawing in people from fields like geography,
geology, civil engineering, computer science, information technology, architecture, environmental
studies, life sciences, public policy, etc. is based on the idea that art, science, and technology can
work together to solve complex problems in the Earth's systems. It helps to build and use
information science infrastructures like GIS, remote sensing, GNSS, and geospatial analytics to
support multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approaches in Earth and
Environmental Sciences, Engineering, and related fields.
The department's main goal is to come up with and carry out research through strong partnerships
with businesses and government agencies. This dynamic partnership between research and industry
makes sure that students and researchers work with real-world problems, industrial-grade tools, and
new technologies like drones, LiDAR, hyperspectral imaging, and geospatial AI. Strategic partnerships
with both new and established geospatial companies give researchers a place to do translational
research, come up with new ideas, and learn by doing.
Beyond technical competencies, the department is committed to creating social impact through
applied geospatial solutions in climate resilience, urban planning, disaster management, biodiversity
conservation, and sustainable resource governance. With geospatial science now at the heart of
global problem-solving frameworks—such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—the
department plays a critical role in preparing a future-ready workforce and knowledge community
equipped to drive societal transformation through spatial intelligence.
